This small lidded box was thrown on the potter's wheel using fine black porcelain. It was created from a closed form. Once the closed form air-dried slightly, I carefully cut the top of the jar from the bottom of the jar on the wheel. I created and trimmed the flange and gallery, then I painted the leather hard clay on the outside and inside using red, yellow, and blue velvet underglazes and let the box sit until bone-dry. The 2 pieces were bisque-fired together, then coated with a glossy high-fire clear glaze and fired again. Inside the porcelain box was a sterling silver heart on a twisted red silk cord. One of a kind- sold.
