This small shallow bowl was thrown on the wheel. While the blue porcelain was still wet and spinning slowly, I scraped into the outside with a finely grooved tool. I painted on white porcelain slip and then scraped it smooth revealing a lined pattern. I let the porcelain dry to leather hard, trimmed it, and then hand-carved the pattern into the exterior. Once the piece was bisque-fired, I applied a high-fire chartreuse glaze to the inside and a glossy high-fire glaze to the outside.
